With schools reopening in the midst of COVID-19, the Lester Vaughan faculty were glad to be able to bring some comfort to students. Not only would their new station allow them to beat the heat and remain hydrated, but it offered the opportunity for the students to maintain a level of safety while doing so.
The station was quickly recognized as a needed addition on the campus to encourage students to drink more water, use less sugary drinks and to cut down on the single use plastic bottles.
Great Pacific and the Barbados Diabetes Foundation took over sponsorship of this station in June 2024, allowing many more years of proper hydration for the Lester Vaughan students!
General Manager of The Maria Holder Diabetes Centre for the Caribbean, while addressing those in attendance stated, “For people who don’t know, schools can go through anywhere up to 67,000 plastic water bottles in a year, so hopefully the students [at Lester Vaughan] will really take advantage of this water filling station and save our landfills and save our oceans.”
