Installed February 2020
In February 2020, The Springer Memorial School with sponsors Barbados Public Workers Co-operative Credit Union helped to launch the Hydrate Programme.
Being the first school to receive a sponsored hydration station, the principal was particularly excited about the capacity of the machine to provide not only cold but filtered water for the entire population of the school.
With the habit of recognizing Wednesday as water day every week – dubbed Water Wednesdays – this station has been crucial in helping water remain integrated into the culture at Springer Memorial. Students are actively encouraged to choose water as their preferred beverage, and the hydration station ensures they are also drinking it regularly.
Paired with the promotion of reducing the use of plastics on the campus, the students are now eager to refill their water bottles while at school. The team at BPWCCUL was eager to help increase student wellbeing and aid the government’s childhood obesity preventative initiative.
